15 Feb 2022 / Singapore
From 16 May 2022, all vessels carrying steel cargo calling at publicly-licensed cargo terminals [including Jurong Port and Sembawang Wharves] must comply with a set of steel stowage requirements for the safe stowage and handling of steel cargo in Singapore.
This set of steel stowage requirements has been developed in consultation with the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and industry stakeholders. It aims to enhance the safety of port personnel involved in the handling of steel cargo. In line with MPA’s mandate to ensure that the publicly-licensed cargo terminal operators, Jurong Port Pte Ltd (“JPPL”) and PSA Corporation Limited (“PSAC”), provide port services at high standards of safety and efficiency, JPPL and PSAC will be operationalising the steel stowage requirements at their respective cargo terminals.
The steel stowage requirements include an accompanying compliance framework detailing the penalties to be imposed on vessel owners, agents or consignees who are found to be in non-compliant with the steel stowage requirements.
For queries relating to operational details of the steel stowage requirements, please contact the below personnel from JPPL and PSAC for further information.
