Extended closure of lock

The Kiel Canal Authority has announced a mandatory extension of the closure of the Big New South Lock at Brunsbuettel until 2 August, due to unforeseen additional maintenance works.

In addition, the following vessels will be obliged to accept tug assistance in order to protect the Lock gates:

  • All vessels (traffic group 3 or higher) entering the Locks first have to accept tug assistance
  • All vessels (traffic group 3 or higher) entering the Locks behind the first vessel and running risk to hit the lock gate directly, have to accept tug assistance

For vessels (traffic group 3 or higher) entering the Locks with no risk to hit the lock gate directly, tug assistance will be not compulsory.
