01 Jul 2021 / Marstrand, Sweden
GAC UK is supporting Swedish Olympic sailing hopeful Klara Wester and her all-female crew as they compete in this month’s GKSS Match Cup Marstrand, hoping to better their semi-final result of 2020.
Klara will be joined on board the Far East 28 one-design yacht by Rebecca Netzler, who also races in the 49erFX class at Olympic level, match racers Julia Carlsson and Beata Törneman, and Ida Svensson. GAC UK and its sailing logistics specialist arm GAC Pindar are supporting them financially, covering the costs of accommodation and attendance as they vie for the Nordea Women’s Trophy in the leading Swedish event from 7 to 10 July.
The decision to support an all-female sailing crew aligns with GAC UK’s joining of the Maritime UK’s Diversity in Maritime Charter dedicated to closing the gender gap and making the maritime sector more inclusive.
Managing Director Herman Jorgensen says: “Marstrand is a much-loved competitive sailing venue for the GAC family, so we are very proud to support Klara and her team competing in its flagship event. We are committed to improving diversity in our own organisation, making us match-fit for the future, and we consider it our duty to support other areas of industry and sport to do the same.”
Now in its 27th year, Match Cup Marstrand is hosted by the Royal Gothenburg Yacht Club (GKSS) and attracts world-class sailors who participate in high profile events like the America’s Cup, Olympics and Sail GP competitions.
